Oyster Stacks

from $445.00

Ningaloo Coast, Western Australia, 2002

As a partner image of Reef Pool, I had the pure joy of spending the hour or so just after dawn snorkelling out and around this beautiful little Ningaloo Reef “bombie” before I came ashore and composed this image at around 7.00am.

Apart from the mirror like glassy conditions which make the experience so much better the highlight was literally coming face to face with an enormous (old man) green turtle. He popped out from behind a reef outcrop taking us both by surprise. We floated facing each other no more than a couple of feet from each other for what seemed like a full minute or two while we checked each other out.

His head was enormous, much larger than mine and he must have been close to a metre across his back as he considered me though very wise eyes.

After our long moment of mutual observation he gently rolled away to his left and went on his way…

Needless to say I was pretty stoked with such an amazing encounter and was keen to try to create an image that would forever remind me of this incredible experience.

Oyster Stacks along with Reef Pool take me right back there…
