Paul Parin

Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia my love for photography and image-making started from a young age.

Taking over the old Polaroid camera for the obligatory family birthday photos from my father morphed into an photography obsession that has continued for many, many years since. Just as the image making technologies have continued to evolve over the years so has my continued learning and professional development. My continued revision and refinement of my skills and abilities has led me to be able to achieve certain outcomes technically and aesthetically that I could only imagine in my formative years.

It has been however my parallel passion for travel, exploring down long roads and remote tracks throughout this vast, beautiful and diverse landscape of Western Australia, planning and pursuing images according to time and place that has provided the long term cathartic focus and clarity and of course enjoyment!

I aspire to develop a certain story-making craft with my imagery. Instead of a purely literal representation of a scene, I like to look at the various components of that scene and or space and compose my images in such a way that there is a symbiotic relationship or interpretive aesthetic that reveals itself to the viewer over time with much to discover and interpret for themselves.

You will see that my imagery often takes the finished form of a series of images crafted with diptych, triptych or various possible image combinations in mind. I feel this enables a greater story-telling aesthetic and also lets clients establish a thematically coherent series of works to furnish their wall spaces instead of a dispirit, disjointed display that lacks in reasoning or interpretation.

I feel very fortunate to have had the breadth and depth of life experiences and opportunities while pursuing my artistic vision. I have also had the greatest pleasure of being able to share a lot of these experiences travelling with my family. My wife Kirsty and children Amy, Jordan and Holly travelled with me for many years and over many expeditions camping out in our camper trailer and swags in pursuit of many of the images you see here. I thank them for their patience, wonder and engagement as they have always helped to keep my enthusiasm (with their enthusiasm,) bubbling along and also keep me emotionally grounded. Now that my children are older and starting to forge their own path in the world I enjoy that they still like to travel, explore and question with wanderlust in their veins.

I lastly would like to acknowledge the original Aboriginal inhabitants and custodians of this land…. With 60,000+ years of continuous habitation they are the original story-tellers of this boodja (land) and I very much respect and enjoy learning and sharing in the stories and lived experience that I have been fortunate to experience in Western Australia and Australia more broadly…

Please take your time to explore my little patch of web space… I encourage you to contact me with any queries you may have regarding my work or if you would like to discuss the purchase of any of my images as custom artworks, printed and produced by myself and my small bespoke team.

See you out there…
